Airport Transfer – Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) to Downtown
With over 40 million passengers a year, Fiumicino is among the 10 busiest airports in Europe and is the larger of Rome's two airports. Depending on the transfer option you choose, getting into central Rome takes about 30 minutes to an hour.
Airport Transfer by Shuttle Bus
One straightforward way into central Rome is a shuttle bus. Several providers offer this service. One-way tickets start at €6.00, and round-trip tickets can be bought together from €9.00. There are two destination options: straight to Rome's main train station (Termini), or to a stop near the Vatican. Shuttle bus tickets can be bought directly at Fiumicino Airport or online in advance.

Airport Transfer by Leonardo Express and Train
Airport Transfer by Leonardo Express
In exactly 32 minutes, the fastest way there with no stops, you can reach Rome's main train station on the Leonardo Express. It runs directly from the station connected to Fiumicino Airport into central Rome. The Leonardo Express runs every 15 to 40 minutes, depending on the time of day. Tickets can be bought directly at the airport station and cost €14.00 per adult for a one-way trip. You can also buy tickets online in advance, so you can head straight to the Leonardo Express with no extra wait.
Airport Transfer by Train
If you'd rather travel a bit cheaper than the Leonardo Express, take the FL1 regional train from Fiumicino Airport. The train doesn't stop directly at Termini (the main station), but not far away at "Tiburtina," where you can switch to Metro Line B. The line also crosses Metro Line B at the "Ostiense" stop. At "Tuscolana," you can switch to Metro Line A. A single ride costs €8.00 per adult. Alternatively, you can use a 3-zone ticket (weekly pass). On a round trip to Fiumicino Airport with this ticket, you've already recouped almost 50% of its price. Children up to age 12 traveling with a paying adult ride the FL1 line for free.
Airport Transfer by Taxi
Another option for your airport transfer is a taxi. With a fixed rate of €55.00 for a ride to the city center within the old walls, there's no risk of price surprises. Especially if your flight lands late or your plane is delayed, a taxi transfer is always worth considering. Split between 4 passengers, that's €13.75 per person, cheaper than the Leonardo Express. A taxi also takes you directly to your accommodation.
